Director
Dr. Cody Goss is serving in his first year as Director of Choral Activities at Rome High School where he directs the Rome Chorale and the Grand Finale Show Choir. Prior to coming to Rome, Dr. Goss taught at Ridgeland High School in Rossville, Georgia where he conducted Ridgeland Chorale and Ridgeland Sinfonia. He also directed the musical theater program at Ridgeland. Under his direction, the Ridgeland choirs regularly earned superior ratings in performance and sight reading at the Georgia Music Educators Association’s annual Large Group Performance Evaluation. His choirs have also regularly earned superior ratings and awards at regional and national competitions. The Ridgeland Chorale was also selected as a performing choir for the Georgia American Choral Director’s Association in October, 2021.
Dr. Goss earned a Doctor of Musical Arts from The University of Alabama in 2013 under the supervision of Dr. John H. Ratledge. He also holds a Master of Music, also from The University of Alabama (2003), and a Bachelor of Music Education from Jacksonville State University (2001).
In 2018, Dr. Goss was named a Lloyd Hawthorne Conducting Fellow for the Bassi Brugnatelli International Conducting and Singing Symposium in Robbiate, Italy. While in Italy, Dr. Goss conducted selections from Mozart’s Mass in C Minor and Mendelssohn’s Elijah as well as a number of arias from the European operatic repertoire.
In addition to his responsibilities at Rome High School, Dr. Goss serves as Director of Traditonal Music and Worship Arts at Rome First United Methodist Church and as an Adjunct Instructor of Music and Worship at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Goss has just been appointed as the Repertoire and Standards Chair for Music and Worship in the Georgia chapter of ACDA.
Dr. Goss is a member of the American Choral Director’s Association, National Association for Music Educators, Georgia Music Educators Association, and the Georgia Teaching Artists Registry. In 2019, he co-authored the chapter ACDA’s Choral Editing Standards Committee in Marvin Latimer’s Excellence in Choral Music: A History of the American Choral Directors Association. Dr. Goss is married to his wife, DeDi, and has four daughters: Zoey, Piper, Laurel, and Rachel Claire.
